Kevin Scutt: Turning Challenges into Empowerment
My early years were filled with the typical joys and challenges of childhood. However, my life took an unexpected turn when I first encountered alcohol at the tender age of 12. What started as a curious experiment soon became a significant part of my life. I had the occasional drink at weekends with mates, but they were then deciding to take other ways to relax which I didn’t want to be a part of.
At school we were getting to the time when we had to decide where to go on our work experience, being a bit different from the others I decided I wanted to have a go at Undertaking and joined a company for 2 weeks that then progressed into a career I held for 14 years. This job, while challenging, provided me with a unique perspective on life and death. It also offered a sense of stability and purpose during a tumultuous period in my life.
As I navigated my teenage years, alcohol became a coping mechanism for various stresses and anxieties that went with the job. The initial thrill and escape it provided masked the deeper issues I was facing. It wasn’t long before the consequences of my alcohol use began to surface.
I went through a tough time in my personal life after getting divorced and losing custody of my children, this only added to my drinking and soon this was becoming more of a survival tactic than a joy. This continued for several years until I had had enough and considered suicide as my only option to get me out of people’s lives. A few years after this time I met my now wife who has helped me a great deal and has supported me even after being admitted to Hospital after vomiting blood and being told that I would die if I continued. This was a wake-up call, a stark reminder of the path I was on.
Determined to change, I sought help and enrolled in the Intuitive Recovery course. This course was a turning point in my life, the passion and realism shown by Matt Wilson were enough for me to decide that one day I would love to do the job he did. The course taught me to understand the underlying reasons for my alcohol use and equipped me with the tools to manage my cravings and triggers. The following weeks weren’t easy, but very transformative.
Through Intuitive Recovery, I learned to reconnect with myself and rediscover my passions and interests. I found solace in activities that brought me genuine joy and fulfilment. The support from my family and friends was invaluable, and their unwavering belief in me kept me going during the toughest times. I must be honest if I hadn’t sat the course, I don’t think I’d be here now.
When I applied for the job with Intuitive after procrastinating for a long time, I found that as soon as I started the ethics of everyone involved were a true reflection on the company and their commitment to changing lives.
Today, I look back on my past with a sense of pride and accomplishment that I do not regret. If this life hadn’t been so mad I wouldn’t have a history.
While my relationship with alcohol has been a challenging aspect of my life, it has also been a source of immense growth and resilience. I continue to strive for a healthier, more balanced life, and I am grateful for the lessons learned along the way.
I am so glad that I can help so many others to find that freedom for life.
Thanks
Kev
